Workshops

The Engineering Design Center offers optional workshops to help students develop or improve engineering skills. Take advantage of staff expertise and equipment, and sign up today!

Bluetooth Speaker Workshop

Make your own Bluetooth Speaker!

In this workshop you will cut and assemble the speaker's wooden exterior, read a schematic for the circuit layout, and solder the electrical components together. The workshop is 2 separate sessions, each approximately 5 hours long. No prior experience is needed, the workshop is intended to teach students in a cross disciplinary project. Take the speaker home when you are finished!

Soldering Workshop

Want to learn how to through-hole solder?

The EDC offers a Soldering Workshop that teaches students to solder or perfect their technique. During this 2 hour workshop, students assemble a kit (provided by the EDC) and solder LEDs, resistors, capacitors, and potentiometers onto a PCB board. When completed, the LEDs blink at a speed which is controlled by the potentiometer.

Beginner Arduino Workshop

This 2 hour workshop introduces the basics of wiring and coding with an Arduino Uno kit. The kits are provided by the Engineering Design Center, but students must bring their own laptop in order to download their code onto the microprocessor.

Students will complete 3 different projects which use components such as a breadboard, resistors, capacitors, LEDs, potentiometers, switches, buzzers, and more. A more detailed walkthrough of the projects in this workshop can be found here.

Intermediate Arduino Workshop

This 2 hour workshop consists of two more complex projects using an Arduino Uno kit. The kits are provided by the Engineering Design Center, but students must bring their own laptop in order to download their code onto the microprocessor.

Students components used in these projects include: a DC motor, L293D IC, switches, LCD screen, ultrasonic sensor, and potentiometer. A more detailed walkthrough of the projects in this workshop can be found here.
