Sewing and Embroidery Certification

The EDC certifications are aimed to help teach students new skills in engineering, but also to make sure equipment is used with safety both for the user and the machine. Certifications are required in order to use the designated equipment or room, and before completing any of these certifications, students must first complete the EDC orientation for the Engineering Design Center so that they can use the makerspace.

Prusa 3D Printers

The Engineering Design Center has 12 Prusa Minis, 4 Prusa MK4s and 2 Utimaker S7s for student use. In order to use the 3D printers, each student must first complete the orientation for the Engineering Design Center as well as the 3D Printing Certification.

The certification is part online and part in person. Students must first complete the online portion here, at the end of which they will take a short quiz and get an STL file of a certification coin. Next, they will come in person to the EDC to complete the certification. This portion takes approximately 45 minutes, during which time students will learn to load and unload filament, download and use Cura and PrusaSlicer software, and 3D print their own object. They can either print the certification coin, pick a free 3D model from Printables or bring their own model to print.

An outline of the certification can be found here.
